Diving Zenobia

Anyone who follows our blog will know that we do a LOT of Technical/CCR diving on the wreck of the Zenobia.

What many of you may not realise is that the Zenobia is also fantastic for recreational diving - ie nothing deeper than 30m.

One of our CCR customers, Nigel Stephenson, took one dive out from his stay here to film one of the routes we do with recreational divers - stern to bow via accommodation. All accessible to recreational/single cylinder divers with a 30m qualification.

We visit the wreck everyday except Sundays between February and November, kit hire is available including computers and larger 15L tanks and Nitrox are available also.

There are 10 different routes we can take recreational divers on - "the Wreckheads Tour", always depending upon each diver's qualification and experience and dive prices reduce the more dives you do.

So sit back and watch the video and then start planning your diving trip to Cyprus by contacting Chris or Sheri on larnaca@dive-in.com.cy  or visit our web site at Dive-In Larnaca or like our facebook page Facebook Dive-In Larnaca or become a friend on Facebook Chris Dive-In

Rescue Course

The Rescue Course is probably the most challenging and rewarding of all the recreational dive courses. The Diver course is a crucial step in a diver's education and is highly recommended to all divers. Divers  move beyond just diving for fun by expanding their knowledge and come to appreciate and understand the importance of diver safety and incident minimization and management.

The course includes  the following topics:
  • Self-rescue and diver stress
  • Emergency management and equipment
  • Panicked diver response
  • In-water rescue breathing protocols
  • Exits
  • Dive accident scenarios

With its emphasis on prevention, self-rescue, and the importance of managing situations effectively, the Rescue Diver Course will equip you to deal with a wide range of typical problems, making you a better buddy, and increasing your confidence as a diver.

Having completed your study online, your first day will consist of confined water work, equipping you with basic skills such as assisting panicking or non-responsive divers.

The second day is spent taking part in emergency scenarios like conducting searches, and bringing an unconscious diver to shore safely, as well as learning how to administer oxygen, and in-water artificial ventilation techniques.

At Dive-In Larnaca, Cyprus we run the SDI and PADI Rescue courses at Green Bay in Protaras where you get the practice the skills required and test your ability to solve problems under pressure and then deal with difficult situations before they develop into full-blown crises.

To enroll in the Rescue Diver course, you must

  • Be 12 years or older (15 years for SDI course)
  • Have a PADI Adventure Diver or SDI Advanced Adventure certification (or have a qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Be trained and current for first aid and CPR within the previous two years.
Rescue course costs 325euro plus 35euros for certification and approx 105euro for the online study. Prices include all equipment hire for the course and a pocket mask.

The Dive Kit we use

The only kit we recommend is what we love and use ourselves. So for Tech diving the only computer for us is the Shearwater Petrel.

With 2 easy to use buttons, prompts and the ability to use any AA battery it really is a winner - not to mention its large clear HD colour screen  which is a must for those of us over 40 whose arms are no longer long enough to read many computers :-)

The Petrel comes with or without a Fischer cable so it can be connected to just about any CCR unit or used as a stand alone computer. It has the capability to hold 5 gases in CCR or OC mode, multiple decompression algorithms and can be updated quickly via bluetooth.

Current Retail price is 885Euro for the standalone version.

Our Dive Torches are made by Tilly Tec from Germany. They are modular lights with varying sized lightheads and batteries depending on what burntime and brightness you want and can be a handheld torch or umbilical.

A battery size TT1 with a 1500 lumen head (shown above) will give you a 3-4 hour burn-time, or a TT3 battery with a 1500 head goes on for over 10 hours!! Long enough for most dive days.

For Regulators Dive-In Larnaca uses Apeks and has a full stock stock of 2013 XTX regulators and instruments in stock.  Cris took Apeks Regs on his Deep dive to 210m, so we have every confidence in them!! Wea re also service Technician for Apeks and so can service you regulators quickly and without sending them away.

While stocks last XTX50 with XTX40 are 495euros and a full set of Tec3 are 895euros.

As from 1st November 2013 Dive-In Larnaca are also proud to be Halcyon Dealers, our initial small order will be arriving mid November with SMBs, SPGs,knives, snaps, line arrows and mask straps, all bearing the coveted blue H.

If you are interested in any dive equipment from the above suppliers just contact Dive-In Larnaca on larnaca@dive-in.com.cy or +357 24627469 for further details.

Why do people go diving?

People dive for all different reasons, here are some of the more popular ones we have come across:

Peace and Quiet

Away from the office phones, computers and emails you can relax and float weightlessly in blissful silence whether you are floating over a reef or wreck or exploring deep in a wreck or cave – for a few minutes out of the day you can focus all your thoughts and energies on what you are doing without any outside interruptions – unless you are with rebreather divers who talk or sing through their loops – you know who you are!!

Social Event

No matter where you travel in the world whether on your own or as part of a group then you are guaranteed to be in the company of like-minded people. People to share dive stories with, to pick up tips and get recommendations on other dive sites you might enjoy.

Joining a dive centre where you live can introduce you to other divers in your area and open up a world of diving in your own home.

Health

You don’t have to be an athlete but you do have to be reasonably healthy to dive. Most dive centres and dive agencies ask you to complete a medical before diving, so any issues arising can be discussed with a doctor beforehand.

Being out in the fresh air regularly, swimming, often in sea water, will improve your overall fitness.

SDI Nitrox Course 99Euro

Longer Bottom Times. Shorter Surface Intervals. These are among the many benefits of diving Nitrox - a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen in which the concentration of oxygen is greater than that found in air. You've no doubt heard of Nitrox, probably know divers who use it. You also know that using Nitrox safely requires special training and certification.

Traditionally, becoming a Nitrox Diver required long hours in the classroom, learning how to work formulas and use dive tables. No More. Through SDI's on-line training program,  you can complete most of the required academic study in the comfort and convenience of your home or office. You'll learn to dive Nitrox the modern way, using Nitrox-programmable dive computers instead of formulas and tables.

When you have done the self-study portion of the course, you will come to Dive-In Larnaca and meet with your SDI Instructor to review your final exam and to take part in a  brief practical application session. Here you will get hands-on experience with oxygen analysers, Nitrox dive computers, gas logging sheets and tank labeling.

As we are the regional office for SDI/TDI when you have completed the academic review and practical application sessions we will give you your permanent certification card. What could be easier? Nitrox opens a world of possibilities, leading to better, more enjoyable diving. What are you waiting for? Learn to Dive - PADI Open Water in Cyprus

Have you ever wanted to learn to dive or even just wanted to have a go and see what it feels like breathing underwater?

Now is the time to "Dive-In" to the PADI Open Water Diver course, the most popular dive program in the world! This is your ticket to a lifetime of adventure.

And there is no better place to learn to dive than Cyprus, with its clean shallow water, good visibility and lack of tides - not to mention the sunshine, it is perfect for your first time breathing underwater.

Throughout the course, you'll learn the basics of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You will also earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification that is recognised worldwide. You earn this rating by studying the theory online in the comfort of you home, then in Cyprus by completing five dives in pool-like conditions and by making four open water dives.

As a certified PADI Open Water Diver you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent of a professional. If you already tried a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience or are PADI Scuba Diver certified, check with your instructor to see how credit from these courses may apply to the Open Water program.

Your underwater adventure can begin as soon as today with the PADI eLearning Open Water Diver online study which you can access, along with any other PADI online courses by clicking PADI eLearning. You can then view and learn at home, at your own pace, and save time studying on holiday.

Contact us for details and prices. We pride ourselves on teaching only small groups, so you have personal attention from one of our PADI Instructors.

Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can achieve a PADI Open Water Diver certification. At some point in the course, your PADI Instructor will ask you to demonstrate the ability to swim 200 metres/yards  and you need to complete a medical form to get you on your way. If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program available.

So contact Dive-In Larnaca today on +357 24627469 or email larnaca@dive-in.com.cy or visit www.dive-in.com.cy to find out more and open the door to a whole new world.
